Dados recentes nos revelaram que 1 em cada 3 idosos com mais de 65 anos sofrem ao menos uma queda por ano, que 10% dessas quedas resultam em fraturas graves que causam um longo tempo de internação com complicações e sequelas, gerando um custo econômico e social enorme para os familiares e para a saúde pública.
E é importante ressaltar que a QUEDA não é apenas aquela em que há um tombo no chão, mas qualquer perturbação em que o corpo saia da posição ereta, ou seja, aqueles tropeços constantes na rua, aquela desequilibrada no ônibus, tudo isso pode ser considerado como queda e já é um SINAL DE ALERTA.
Esse fenômeno acontece porque o processo de envelhecimento acarreta em alterações no equilíbrio e no controle postural, que pode vir derivado de um déficit de força muscular, ou problemas visuais e auditivos. Nos deixando mais vulneráveis a esses acometimentos, que por consequência, geram o medo de cair, nos deixando mais inseguros, dependentes e sem vontade de realizar nossas atividades e anseios.
